Archived from groups: microsoft>public>outlook>mac (more info?)

After much playing around and fustration, I finally
managed to get Outlook 2001 to connect to our Exchange
2003 server from our Mac OS 10.3.2 machine using TCP/IP.

The main problem was the inability of outlook running
under classic to properly resolve the name of the mail
server.

I found out how to fix it by using the terminal
application and some unix to edit the hosts file for OSX
and add an entry for the mail server.

I have posted a document on my website that details how to
do this. The address
is....www.braddonprinting.com.au/osx/miscdown.htm. I will
leave it up for a week or two if anyone is interested.

Please remember that you are editing sensitive files - you
could realy stuff up your computer if you are not careful.

As usual with any operation of this nature, you should
make sure that you have a proper backup of your system
before you start.

This info is provided as is. I make no warranties as to
the content and its accuracy, reliability or
appropriateness - do this at your own risk!

Kevin...

I hope you can offer some advice. I had already changed my hosts file
to include ALL of our servers IP's and their names. i can ping from
here to kingdom come and everything is 0% packet loss. i have never
had a problem with Outlook2001... UNTIL... i tied using it on this G5.
It makes absolutely NO sense why this won't work, if i have full
network connectivity. The error message i am getting when i try to
create a new account and test it is:

"No network connection is available or your network settings are not
correct."

I am at a loss here. this just doesn't make sense... that's all i
can say. perhaps i am doing something else wrong, but i believe i
have covered all my bases here.

anyone??? HELP???

bie
