Outlook 2001 does not connect with exchange server

I would like to connect Outlook 2001 with a remote mail server, using VPN
via Netlock software. The secure connection with VPN is already established,
but it is not possible to connect Outlook with the mail server. When I try
to set up the Outlook profile and test it, the answer is always negative.

I pinged the network successfully using OTTool and configured TCP/IP with
the displayed DNS. In the newsgroup I read something about a "Host file"
that is crucial in the set up of the connection, but don't know what it is
or how to use it or whether this file is the clue to my problems.
