Mac Warriors,

The quiet period around our parent company's IPO (Freescale
Semiconductor - FSL) is over and we're going start making product
delivery announcements for the Macintosh market in September but I
wanted to let you in on what we've been doing. Some of the plans are not
yet confirmed and I donıt want to have our plans appear as promises,
yet. As these items become more fleshed out we will be making formal
announcements that will include specific details and dates.

First, I'm personally very excited that Metrowerksı partnership with the
Mac Developers community will continue. We will continue providing bug
fixes and patches to CodeWarrior Development Studio, v9.x as necessary
(we recently released v9.3 patch, available via our web site now).

Secondly, I can say that we are planning a CodeWarrior Pro 9 optimizing
compiler and build chain for 64-bit support that allows you to build
optimized G5 applications with the build speeds you expect from
CodeWarrior. We are aiming at a beta version of these tools being seeded
by end of this year, but that is not a committed deadline yet. More on
this build chain will be announced this September. You will need to be a
CodeWarrior Pro 9 customer to get this functionality and it will
complement (not replace) the existing compilers so that we don't affect
on-going or archived projects.

Finally, let me assure you that providing the finest optimizing
compilers and tools available for Mac OS X remains a focus for
Metrowerks. To that end, in addition to G5 support, we are planning that
a NEW CodeWarrior for Mac OS will be available in 2005. This new
CodeWarrior will include a text based project format and will utilize
more OS X features.

You may ask why is it going to take so long, the answer is that we are
addressing some of the long standing customer requests and increasing
our emphasis on product quality. We believe our timing is right, Apple
is not releasing a new operating system until 2005 so we have the time
now to build a new product and not simply a repackaged IDE. It will be
worth the wait. Look for more details in September.

Ron

I'd rather have MW put much more effort in their Mac hosted cross-compiler
to Windows or other and abandon the Win hosted one. If it had been me, I'd
rather have dropped CW-WinHosted than CW-JavaTarget ...

My 2p (an happy CW 9.3 user, yes: there's at least one ;-)

Ron,

As I read your note, I come to the following conclusions. Can you give
me some guidance if I have misread the post?

- Java is apparently dead in CW

- Windows support appears to also die

If either of those is true, then I guess my exploration of Eclipse will
have to turn into a full conversion to it.

After something like 13 years of using CW, I kinda hate to make the
change, but as I read things, it appears that MW is no longer going in
my direction. :-(

I've been looking most of September. Of course, this just says to
*look* for more details, it doesn't actually promise any more details.
Were there details I missed?

I fired off a letter to the press release person and it appears that
this is going to be delayed even longer.

I'll post a full lettre apologizing.

Not officially, we still have Java tools in our Learning Edition.
However, I do not see us getting back into a market where we can not be
the best tools.

 >- Windows support appears to also die

Not yet, We just released a new version for Windows this year then an
update a few weeks ago. I'm confident to state that we are the best
Standard C++ compiler and library combination available for Windows.

Our direction is embedded tools support, this is where we are at and
will continue to go but we just reaffirmed our commitment to Apple and
Mac OS and Mac OS X, we did not do that for Java.
