I recently replaced my internal 4 GB ATA hard drive with a 40 GB unit and
now am looking around for the best way to use it as an external firewire
or, less attractively, USB drive. Any helpful ideas welcomed. Email to
ferma001.TakeThisOut@umn.edu Thank you.

Cases are readily available and not terribly expensive (considering that
they're reusable). Check <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.dealmac.com" target="_blank">www.dealmac.com</a> for prices, and their forums to
see if the low price you just found is on a case that's worth getting.
