Hi,
I might want to upgrade the video on an old Umax C600 mac clone
(has 3 free PCI ports), and I was thinking of an old ATI Rage 128 PCI
card (since i don't really need much performance, but I want to use
high resolutions @ high color depth that I can't have with the 1MB
video that came with the C600).

Can I use just any ol' card (like from a PC) or do I need a special mac
version of this card?

I know drivers from Mac os 7.6 exist.

Thanks in advance,
Ido.

Doing a Google search for

ATI Rage 128 PCI Mac firmware

seems to imply that the firmware is different, but you might be able to
find the Mac ROM image and re-flash the video card.

My (very limited) understanding is that (a) the card needs a
Mac-specific driver, (b) it is possible to re-flash the card, but (c)
the flashing software isn't available for Macs, so you'll have to use a
PC to do it.

G4 AGP (Rage+) Card vs. PCI Radeon 7000 - Hi, I have a question that I was hoping someone could help me with. I have a G4 DP/450. It came with a stock AGP video card, which I think is an ATI Rage Pro card with 16M. I recently bought an ATI Radeon 7000 PCI card with 32M so that I could drive a...
