Archived from groups: comp>sys>mac>apps (more info?)

When I run Elements on my G4 PowerBook, formerly with 10.2.8 and now
with 10.3.2, I get the following error messages and I cannot figure out
what to do about them.

The first error occurs at random times and is not related to trying to
open or save a file. In fact, I have no problem opening or saving files
and Elements seems to work fine in spite of the error. Furthermore, if
I just open the program and let it sit there this error eventually will
occur, leading me to believe it is something internal. I would like to
make it go away.

Adobe Photoshop Elements
Could not complete your request because the file
is locked. Use the 'Get Info' command in the
Finder to unlock the file.

The second error occurs when firing up Elements. The program seems to
want to go out to the Adobe site to find updates. What I get is the
following:

An error occurred while attempting to
download a file from the Adobe Online
web server.

The request was not understood by the
server. HTTP #400-Bad Request

I am at a loss as to why the Adobe server would not recognize a request
from an Adobe program!

One or more of the files within the Elements package probably has the
wrong permissions. Since Elements is not installed with the Apple
Installer, Disk Utilities "Repair Privileges" won't fix it. You might
try making a drag copy of the application and see it that clears the
problem; otherwise, reinstall from the original CD.

No. Something is locked. When I run Get Info from Finder it only gives
me the Desktop. It showed a padlock by the owner. Clicking unlocked it
but I still get the error. I am going to try applying it to the
enclosed items to see if that helps.

I had this problem for some time until I found a fix on the Adobe web site
in the product support area (sorry - too long ago to remember where).

It is a file permission problem. PE2 uses some temporary space in the
application directory to store preview data. That has to be writeable by the
user. If you are like me, you installed PE from an account with admin
privileges and then run it from a normal user account. Look in the Adobe
Photoshop Elements 2 directory for the Preview subdirectory. Check the
permissions on that directory and everything below them. Change them to be
world read & write.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
