Post subject: Getting into AppleVision 850
Archived from groups: comp>sys>mac>hardware>video (more info?)

I have an AppleVision 850 monitor -- in fact, I have that one and also
an 850AV -- both of them are giving some trouble.

I've removed all visible fasteners and I still can't get the case off
the 850. I've taken out four Torx screws, which loosened the front
bezel; but it is still attached somewhere at the top, where the built-in
microphone goes. How does *that* come out? I've pulled off the swivel
base and disconnected the ADB cable, finding a total of four more Torx
screws down there. I've taken out the large, highly visible Phillips
screw right at the rear, near the power cord. Now the back half of the
case is loose at the bottom, but not at the top.

The back half of the case seems to be in two pieces, like a box (with
one end cut off) with a lid. But the lid won't come off with vigorous
prying, though this shows there are two different pieces of plastic. The
lid has, besides the many ventilation slots, two small holes, maybe
1/16" dia., located where a man might expect to see a couple of screws.
But although I've often seen deeply recessed screws, I can't see that
here.

Please don't laugh, but I'd appreciate any help getting in. Oh, and as
long as I'm asking, I'd *love* a copy of the service manual for this
model. {grin}

Thanks! That not only solves my immediate problem, it also gives me help
later on. It's more than I hoped to get.

<rant> And I see, just as I expected, that Apple chose once again to use
cute plastic gadgets to hold the case together. I just wish everybody in
the world would use great big Phillips screws everywhere, for
everything. I don't even like Allen screws, let alone Torx. </rant>

Thanks again!<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
