If you would have asked 6 months ago I would have said "No way", but
recent changes in the Mac porting scene have changed my mind. Now I'd
say there's a chance but no one has made any announcements so don't hold
your breath.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

What changes are those, exactly? (Sorry if that sounds short -- just
wondering what's got your optimism going -- Transgaming?)

Well, a long time ago it was mentioned that BF 1942 wasn't going to come
out for the Mac because Dice didn't want to 3rd parties to get ahold of
their code. Then Aspyr started putting together a team of internal
developers. Somewhere they mentioned that one of the reasons they
brought in developers was because some ports couldn't be done because
the PC developers were really picky at how many parties could get ahold
of the code. Once I read that, alarms started going off.

And recently, there have been a few hints dropped here and there in
different forums. Glenda Adams of Aspyr once mentioned that they were
worried about the timing of one of their major projects. Not only was
it a slightly older game but they dedicated a large number of resources
to it.

"We've taken a chance on a future project no one thinks can come to the
Mac, and put more resources behind it than any single project we've ever
done. And when we announce it, we have no idea if people will buy it in
droves or just find some detail (timing, features, etc) to bitch about
and skip it. We think it's a risk worth taking, so we're doing it."

Now, that's no guarantee BF 1942 is heading to the Mac, but it's enough
to set the rumor mongers off.

Of course, it could be NFS: Porche Unleashed ;)<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Well, my suspicions were correction. Mac BF1942 is official:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.aspyr.com/games.php/mac/bf1942/" target="_blank">http://www.aspyr.com/games.php/mac/bf1942/</a>

Currently schedule for second quarter. So we'll get MoH:Breakthrough,
then Call of Duty, then BF1942. What other WWII FPS games are out there
athat aren't out on the Mac? We need those now!<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Reading the latest copy I have of MacWorld, it seems that Aspyr have come up
on a sure-fire money maker. 5% of computer users with nice ATi cards in
their machines and not as many games as the PC to play with.

So well done to them in clearing up in this niche market. I personally wish
'em all the best. Now if they could just release a Mac version of the
original Half-Life and let us play some of those sweet, sweet mods too...
[drool] Urban Terror. Although I hear that's being released as a stand-alone
game soon (don't know if it'll be on the Mac).
