With my Wallstreet PB I could put the computer to sleep and then change
batteries. With my PB g4 I bought an extra battery, but I read that the
computer needs to be shut down to change batteries. Is that true?

On my Aluminum 17" I can take out the battery for about a minuate and
not lose any data. There is a backup battery separate from the main
one.

This should be in your manual.

15" and 17" PowerBooks may swap batteries when asleep, but the 12"
(along with all iBooks) must be shut down.

Unless it's plugged in, of course.

This may be useful to know if you *really* don't want to shut down,
and you have short-term access to AC, as, for example on a flight,
or in a restaurant.

(Just keep in mind that the battery is sprung, and may jump out of control.)

Which battery for a 3400? - I need to get a new battery for my wife's trusty old 3400. Should I get a NiMH, or a Li-Ion? Which is better? What's the difference as far as how and when to charge or how far to run it down? They're both pretty cheap these days. Thanks, MK

Battery on Ibook - My IBook is just about one-year old. I don't use it as my main computing source. I've probably used it fewer than 10 hours since I've had it. Since the day I bought it the battery life has been in question. After a full charge I never seemed to get more....
