I have an iMac G5 with printer, an 'old' scanner, digital camera, &
sound system plugged in - using a Belkin 7-port USB hub. I don't
remember how 'old' the USB hub is but --- sometimes it seems to work but
most of the time it doesn't! Looking at an advertisement for the 7-port
USB Belkin, the one I'm TRYING to use looks the same as the 2.0 model...

Do USB hubs 'wear out'? Is there a trick where if I have a device like
the scanner which is an older model and maybe 1.0 USB (?) = it won't
work in a 2.0 hub?

Are there 'better' USB hubs than the one I have? (Please!).

thanks,
de

I am using a Kensington 7 port USB 2.0 powered hub with every port in
use for scanners (two) printer, camera down load hub, direct camera
download, tablet etc with no problems at all.

Is it better than Belkin, who knows, it is just what I am using without
any problems.

iMac G-5 running 10.3.9.

Belkin has a great policy about replacing defective hardware in my
experience. If I were you I'd go to their web site
(http://www.belkin.com/support/returns) and create a defective product
RMA, describing the problem. Chances are they'll replace it for the
cost of shipping.

Thanks to both Ockham's Razor and Jolly Roger for the suggestions!
If I can find the Belkin receipt I will look 'em up.

Look them up anyway - they may not require a receipt. ; )

I looked them up, followed the instructions and all they required was
where I bought the product. It's in the mail.

Thank you again!

I'll take at least one of 'em. Since I bought the digital camera I seem
always to be one USB port short and have to unplug something to use
something else.

Send one port (I'll pay postage) and I will guarantee, when you reach
the point of USB port-shortness, I will return it. THANKS!
