I can't say I've seen this before, although it's possible for a corrupt file
to do most anything. If you close & save then quit Excel does the link
remain listed when you launch Excel & reopen the file? If you select any of
the cells does the Formula bar show it as being linked?
Try this if it does:
Select & copy the "linked" content then use Edit> Paste Special - Values to
paste it back into the same cells. Perhaps that will break it loose.

Yes, the link info remains in the list, it is the only one, and when I
sesarch for the link in the workbook, none is shown. So I am at a
real loss as to what to do.
