Brother HL5070N & Word

I just added a Brother 5070N laser printer to my G4 running 10.2.6. I'm
having the following problem and am looking for suggestions.

Often when a printing a document from Microsft Word v.X Service Release
1, the job fails because there is no paper in the Multi-Purpose tray.
I'm not trying to use the tray and have left all paper source options as
they were when I installed the printer. The same settings work just
fine with Excel, PowerPoint, Safari, Textedit...

One workaround I discovered was to go to Page Setup in Word and specify
a custom paper size of 11 x 8.5, Don't know why this fakes it out, but
it consistently does. I've also noticed that this seems to happen
almost always with files from external sources.

I emailed Brother with the problem and got a clueless response. Any
help here will be appreciated.

You didn't have your paper size set to A4 in Word?

Maybe the printer sees what physical size it's trays are, and it doesn't
find the 11 x 8.5 so it just switches to the multi-purpose feed?
