I have a problem with my Iomega CD-RW USB 1.1 drive that has me
absolutely baffled.
I do graphics work and periodically must burn disks for various
printers. I can burn CDRs and they work flawlessly on my iMac DV (OS
9.2.2), Performa 6300 (OS 9.1), iBook (X/9.2.2) and Performa 6118
(9.1), yet when I take the disk and try to open it on any Mac just
about anywhere else, it fails, or the files won't copy because the
computer says they are corrupted.
I could understand if perhaps an older CDR drive couldn't recognize
it, but this is happening on newer iMacs as well. I had an Iomega Zip
650CD drive before it died and I replaced it with my current Iomega
drive, and I never had this problem before.
I am not worried so much about the integrity of the files I am
archiving for home use, so long as I can continue to open them on my
own computers, but this is a serious problem for the work I do and I
am wondering if anyone knows what might be causing it and how I can
cure it.
Just to give you some additional background, I am using 700MB Memorex
CDR blanks, same as I always have. I burn my disks in Toast, but
occasionally with HotBurn (a horrible piece of software). Doesn't seem
to make any difference.
Thanks in advance for your advice and input. >> Stay informed about: CD burner |

Try changing the media - I've never liked Memorex blanks, they'll read
in some drives and not others.
Like many people here, I swear by Verbatim / Datalife Plus 'Super AZO'
blanks, they've been readable in anything I've thrown them at.
If you have access to another burner, try burning a Memorex in that and
feeding it to your problem machines ... if they read okay, then there's
quite likely some odd alignment problem with your Iomega burner, and it
should be replaced.
