Hi, I apparently need to replace a Canon i560 which is only printing
black and yellow. Have
run the usual gamut of trying to clean printhead. No luck and tired of
trying.
Problem might be resolved with a new printhead but of course,
for a few dollars more......

I can get a new Pixma 4200 cheap.. (or 1700). The only drivers
mentioned by Canon are OSX+.

Problem is I happen to still use a PowerMac G3 which I run OS 8.6 on,
and the 560 still had a driver designated for that. I want to switch
between an OSX laptop and this older desktop which i could do with the
i560...

Any third party options or other suggestions on what driver might work
with OS 8/9 for a newer Pixma printer?
Otherwise, I'm open to good suggestions for a workhorse budget inkjet
that will do the job.. Most stuff I do is
text but i have a moderate need for basic color printing. Not much
photo printing...just text/graphic stuff.
Ideally I'd move to a laser but i assume price range and operating cost
is way higher than this ballpark.

Greatly appreciate your advice

Taking the "printers are like light-bulbs anymore" approach, I
impulse-bought a Canon MP160
at a discount place for about 90 bucks. I don't know about any
workarounds to make it work
with OS 9... The whole elimination process is too tiring when ya need
something in a couple of
days... Appreciate your comment abt the HP. I don't know. My mom has
an HP AIO that's
been used a couple times a day for 6 mos. tops and it already has
issues with ink fading and
no print after all the cleaning. Seems like these things - all models-
take a helluva lot too much
consumer-maintenance that really should be the manufacturer's
obligation to fix....no?
