Civ III game freezes

I have been playing Civ III v1.21g for months with no problems, but
have recently been cursed by freezes at the start of a new turn.
I can't force quit or exit the game and must power off and on to
restart.
This happens with 10.3.9 on one drive and 10.4.3 on another.
I have tried reinstalling the game, trashing any civ prefs,
reinstalling QuickTime 6.5.2 on the 10.3.9 drive, repairing
permissions on both drives with no luck.
I have heard of an upgrade to 1.29b but can't find a link to it that
works.
Any help would be appreciated

Uh ... hm. I don't know which version of Civ III I have,
exactly. Will check and report back after I manage at least four
great Wonders of the World, or until I break the Ruso-Aztec alliance.
