Hmm. I find corruption and waste much reduced in democracy wrt republic
- except at distances far from a palace. People also seem happier - I
can rarely get away with < 20% luxury as a republic; I can often cut it
to zero under democracy - , and more productive, too. I must admit I
haven't checked the costs on the balance sheet, but keeping all other
things equal I have more net income after the switch.
