I've got the MacSoft version of Civilization 3, and though the Amazon
sys reqs (not necessarily the best source, I know) say...

G3 300 MHz or faster processor (500 MHz recommended)
Mac OS 8.6 or later, OS X
64 MB RAM (128 MB RAM for OS X)
500 MB hard disk space (650 MB recommended)
CD-ROM drive

.... when I try to start up, it wants more than 100,000k and quits. I'm
running on OS 8.6, fwiw, with 96 megs + virtual mem, using the version
of Civ3 straight off of the CD.

TIA for any help.

Uhm ... hm. I *was* going to say I'd run it all right on the
old PowerBase 180 I had, but thinking over the dates I realize that can't
be; I had to have done it on the iBook and that's all.

Are you running the original Civ III, or the recent Civ III
Complete re-issue? It's possible something got mucked up in the new
prints or expansion and they didn't catch it.

It's the MacSoft version, not the Aspyr Civ3 Complete, so the original.

What, Amazon messes up sys reqs?!! Impossible! ;^)

I think you're likely right; that's what it told me, give or take, with
VM on as well. I tried to force it to 80 and it said it might crash.
Don't know yet, as I don't have my Voodoo 3 in the computer right now
and don't have enough VRAM to run. Talk about your continual vortexes.

Argh. Memory's only $30 for 64 megs for my StarMax (which would net me
48 megs), but I really didn't want to toss any more money into a "dead"
system. Why can't I just be happy playing on my iBook?

Oh well, thanks for the info.

If you get info on the program and check the memory requirements there,
it needs 107,520 KB(*) with virtual memory turned on. I'd think you'd
need at least 128MB to run the program.

Greg B.

(*) This was with v1.2b of the program.
