Hi people,

Assistance required if possible.

I can't print or scan from my USB printer when connected to my airport
express. I have a D-link 502T router with the Airport joined to this
and connected to the stereo for the obvious, and have since acquired a
USB printer (of the Canon variety) I have no problem printing/scanning
when connected to the Laptop directly, however when hooked to the
airport its a no go. The Airport Assistant recognises the USB printer
is connected, and I have tried various IP ports/USB port and LPT1 port
with nil sucess. And each time, get the error message that the printer
is not responding. I am about to turn the printer into a frisbee and
flick it over the balcony!

Please Help

Not all printers are designed to work wirelessly. Check with Canon to
make sure your particular printer is supported in that configuration. I
had exactly the same problem with an HP printer and HP said it would
never work, but they had another model that is supported so I sold my
original HP printer and bought that model (for $20 more) and it works
fine. You are probably in that situation too. You didn't give any
specific details on which Canon printer you have, so its impossible to
say for sure, but Canon can certainly tell you.

I'm not surprised that you can't scan. Scanning is not supported on any
device connected to the USB port on any Airport base station.

You might be able to print, as long as the printer and its driver are
compatible with the Airport Express and printing over the network. Some
printers will only work when plugged into the computer.

This article from Apple's support pages might have some useful hints:

Does it recognise it to the level of reporting its brand name and model?

Your mention of LPT1 raises the question: are you doing this with a Mac
or with Windows?

If you are using Windows, try this article for ideas:

For starters, you should install Bonjour for Windows.

Thanks people, I will check with Cannon regarding its compatability,
its an MP180 if anyones aware. Wasn't aware of the scaning limitation
with airport handy to know. And yes using windows, (LPT1 just came up
as a port to use and had basically tried everything on the list.)
