Running OS 10.2.6 on an iMac and the Sony DVD+R will not mount or will
accept an iMovie project through iDVD. CD's will mount & burn OK in
the Superdrive. Is there another brand of blank media I need to burn
to DVD or some utility that will allow me to use it?

If you're talking about your internal SuperDrive, you need to use a
DVD-R, not a DVD+R. If you have a Sony drive, I think it theoretically
supports DVD+R but is disabled in the firmware, and even if it weren't
disabled, Apple's software wouldn't support it.

I have the internal Superdrive. I look at the "+" and "-" on the Sony
blank media and didn't think it made any difference. Apparently it
does.

Or if he's got an external FireWire DVD+R drive (can't tell from his
message) then iDVD won't burn to it. He'll need to have iDVD make a
DVD image file (should work if there's also an internal SuperDrive)
and then use something like Toast to burn it to a DVD+R disc in the
DVD+R drive.

AFAIK, SuperDrives accept only DVD-Rs, not DVD+Rs.

What is the difference? I'm glad I didn't buy the blank media in bulk.

HUGE can of worms and or kettle of fish. They're two competing
technologies for user-writeable DVD media, pushed by two different
industry groups that are almost completely distinct; Sony and one or two
other companies are advocating both formats to some degree. Basically
the + variant is slightly newer and designed as large random-access
media. The - variant is aimed more at one-shot writing, as one might ddo
creating home movies. + has more active support in the computer
industry, but I believe - still retains a slight compatibility edge in
the consumer DVD player space.
