Have just bought a tv with dvi socket on

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/136255/show_product_gallery

I would like to connect my powerbook into it and wondering what lead I
need

my powerbook is the 1ghz version

http://support.apple.com/specs/powerbook/PowerBook_G4_1GHz-867MHz.html

Iam confused with dvi-i and dvi-d as the picture of dvi-i dual on this
page
http://www.edgetechcorp.com/accessories/cablefaqs.asp looks like the
one on the powerbook and the tv

But leads I have seen on the net all talk about dvi-d

The tv does come with a vga cable but on the powerbook there isnt a
vga output - I would like to mirror the screen so it needs to be clear
- mainly for watching movies.

Or am I better (any difference in quality?) just getting an adapter
for the powerbook to vga as the tv has vga socket and lead??

Thanks Paul
The tv shows a dvi socket on the back, doesn,t say dvi-d but it must
be the standard whatever.
Looked in the box and found the dongle, the tv comes with a vga lead
so I will try that when it comes and see what the quality is like.
I know I tried the powerbook on the rca cable to my crt tv and its
horrible so I hope that the LCD one works better.
Cheers

Your PowerBook originally came with a DVI-VGA adapter (small white
dongle). Maybe it's still in the box ? You could use that until you get
a suitable DVI cable.

To anwer your question, I'm pretty sure you just need a straight DVI-D
cable, assuming your TV really is DVI-D. Don't worry if the cable plugs
have fewer pins than your sockets - the Mac supports analogue out (for
the DVI-VGA dongle) but these pins are not used on a purely DVI-D
connection.

You can definitely see the difference between VGA (analogue) and DVI-D
(digital) - the analogue version on the same display will usually be
noticeably softer than the digital equivalent, but it shouldn't be
horrible to look at. But at least now you have the dongle you should be
up and running while you source a DVI-D lead.

I didn't know they still let GM's into G-land now that GM has its own
parliament etc. Will have to write to my MP about that. ;-)

73 and good luck,

Paul
