There has got to be a way for iTunes to "find" your iPod after you
eject it (via iTunes) w/o having to disconnect/reconnect it.

There just has to be.

Thanks

Try remounting the iPod via disk utility then restarting iTunes. Than
again, what's the big deal about reconnecting your iPod?

Uhhh... unplug it. Wait about 2 seconds. Plug it in.

when the solution is so easy, why invent a harder way?

Did you actually read his question? He would like to do it *without*
unplugging and plugging it back in.

And, as I said "when the solution is so easy, why invent a harder way?"

Personally, I think answering the question is more productive than
attempting to invalidate the question. ; ) But since you insist on
trying... perhaps having to unplug and plug it back in is more of an
inconvenience for him. Just a guess, and I'm sure for that one reason I
could think of, there are probably 20 others I could not think of. Not
that it matters either way, or helps the OP...

Actually, if I knew a simple solution, I would have provided it.
However, since the OP was so insistent that there MUST be a way, I just
pointed out why that is not necessarily true. "when the solution is so
easy, why invent a harder way?"

Perhaps someone else will come up with a way, but if not, I believe my
statement stands as the reason there is not...

Reboot the iPod ... but then that would take longer than disconnecting
and reconnecting! Recently I found that even after reconnecting my iPod
I found it had to be rebooted to force the Mac and iTunes to detect it
(didn't show as mounted volume either).

Semantics.

I believe that is correct. When a device shows up or disconnects, the
OS enumerates all devices that it knows about. That disconnected device
is no longer there. In fact, the OS cannot tell the difference between
an unplugged device, turned off device or disonnected device except by
re-enumerating all devices.

My MacPro has the nasty habit of losing track of my USB keyboard
periodically. The only way to get it back (that I know of) is to unplug
it, wait a couple seconds, and plug it back in.

Disk Utility will remember that the iPod is there, and will re-mount it
after it has been unmounted. But it's probably a bigger chore to
fire up Disk Utility for this that than to disconnect and reconnect the
cable.
