A local reseller is offering the PowerMac with dual G5 PPC running at
1.8GHz, 256 MB DDR-SDRAm, 80 GB HD, SuperDrive, GeForce FX 5200 graphics
card, ext kbyd and mouse for $1199. They're also running the iMac 17"
Widescreen LCD with the single 1.8 GHz G%, Superdrive, 512 MB memory,
Radeon 9600 video card and 160 GB serial ATA HD. Which is the better
buy? How many slots does the PowerMac have (3?) Am I correct that the
iMac has zero PCI slots for expansion - only via Firewire and USB. I
know getting inside the tower is easier - how about opening the iMac and
adding memory? Primarily, I'd be interested in adding a soundcard and a
HDTV tuner card to the tower.

Well if you get the tower you will have to get a monitor. Otherwise
they are close to the same so your choice.

The iMac is very easy to get into: turn 3 screws and lift. So RAM is a
breeze. The iMac has no PCI slots, is very loud and the G5's bench
slower (rumored to save power heat).. but then again, the PM G5 is also
pretty loud when pushed. But, at least the noise is not right in your
face. The PM G5 also has an additonal G5 slot. You can buy a high
quality 17" Acer LCD (silver) for around $400.
