Hello,

I have an Excel Spreadsheet (Excel v. X for Mac) that I use almost
daily. It contains all of my invoicing history as well as projects that
are currently in progress. When I try to open it, it gives the above
message. The file will still open, but all of the worksheets have been
combined into one sheet and I can see that the data is still there,
just all jumbled together in a manner that doesn't make much sense to
me. I did find that there was a "damaged file" folder created a few
days ago and it contains this Excel spreadsheet that is vital to my
daily routine. Is it possible to retrieve this information or salvage
this file in any way? It seems like since the file will open, there is
some hope.

Any guidance is greatly appreciated!

All the best,
KT

Hi Karry -

Before anything else, make a backup copy of the file if you don't already
have one.

Is Excel fully updated (10.1.7 & 8/8/06 Security Update)? If not, get that
done next. Make sure to run Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions
afterward. If all is up-to-date already, run the utility anyway.

Are you attempting to open the file by double-clicking it in Finder or by
File>Open in Excel?

I never worked much with v.X - skipped right past it from 2001 to 2004 - but
if you post back after following the above we may have more to work with.

Karry,

The suggestions by CyberTaz are good. Please do let us know (in a new
thread) if the problem is still occuring and what is different about the
file before and after the problem started.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hello Hilena -

Odd we didn't hear anything more from the OP, huh? I guess he/she either got
fixed or got fired!
