Post subject: Finder rotating JPEG and PNG downloads (10.4 and 10.5)
Archived from groups: comp>sys>mac>system (more info?)

For some unknown reason, my Finder has begun doing a 90 degree
rotation of every image that I download from the web. When it first
occurred in Tiger, I thought it was some preference file that got
corrupted. Rather than try to find it, I upgraded to Leopard and did
an Archive install so I presumably inherited nothing. However, much
to my surprise, my downloads are still getting rotated. For example,
I drag an image to the Desktop and it looks okay for a few moments.
Suddenly, it disappears and is placed in an auto-generated folder on
the Desktop called "Rotated Images". After the file disappears on the
Desktop, an alert box appears saying:

File /Users/paintedjazz/Desktop/my.jpg wasn't found.

If I drag the download image to a folder (rather than the Desktop),
this odd behavior does not occur. If I drag a GIF image (rather than
a JPEG or a PNG), the behavior also does not occur.

I googled for "Rotated Images" and "wasn't found" but had no luck
finding a solution. Has anyone seen this and can assist? Many
thanks.

Before I got to read your response, I had just checked that and came
back here to say I had discovered the problem. I seem to recall
experimenting with Folder Actions and then not getting a chance to
test it. That sure came back to bite me. :) Thanks for your help.

Do you have a folder action tied to your desktop folder?

(Archive & install actually brings over most of your user settings, so
I'd expect whatever this is to keep happening.)
