Leave the guy alone, what you all don't understand is that very
full hard disks can make odd things happen. I have seen a full HD
talk. Yup! Talk! It was not a groan or anything emotional like "O
woe is me! I am so full!" No. It was a case in March 4 of 1997,
the disk simply exclaimed from its case in a clear and calm voice
in English, "Excuse me, excuse me, I am too full to think at
all." That was it.
Look, its a bit like the claim that the laws of physics in the
very very early universe did not apply as they do now. You are
too literal and technical. You simply cannot accept the
mysterious, the ineffable, the wondrous. Stop fighting the 'other
side'. Relax.

Point taken.
I'll help find it and see that it's returned to you.

Not that you need my support <g> but FWIW I installed and I run PE2 perfectly
happily on my G5 iMac PPC running 10.4.11. Have never had a single problem
with it and have never seen a reason to upgrade to a newer version.

Thanks, Sally. Just don't upgrade to Leopard until you're also ready to
upgrade PE.

Well, 20 hexadecimal equals 32 decimal, and 32 ASCII is a space, so I
imagine those should have been spaces.

I considered that, but noted that there were other spaces in that
line. Maybe somewhere between that post and here, they had some
LF/space confusion. (I do more work with EBCDIC than with ASCII, so
I'm aware of LF/FF types of conflicts). >> Stay informed about: Freeware defrag Software |

I would imagine a LF issue is exactly what caused it.

It occurs to me that perhaps this is the source of the confusion:
http://macconsult.com/usenet/pe20g.png
Perhaps Erik read "A valid Classic environment was not detected" and
missed seeing that the installer would continue to run, installing a
copy that's complete only for Mac OS X.

So you're saying the installer actually launches in OS X? And you get
the same dialog as I showed in the latest screen shot? It sounds like
the installer is crashing on you. You definitely do _NOT_ need OS 9 to
install or use Photoshop Elements 2.0. In fact, that's why I bought
that version as soon as it was released back in 2002.

I don't understand how an installer that requires OS 9 can even launch
in the absence of OS 9.

I received a free copy of (the already superseded) PE 2.0 with my scanner and
had no problems running it under 10.4 up to 10.4.11. It would not run under
10.5.1 so I bought PE4, which does run.
