Good question! Why not ask them?

Do you believe everything someone at Radio Shack tells you?
The statement is simply incorrect.

So you say. Yet nearly every post you make is an attempt to discredit
Apple. Come up with any examples yet of the "many" digital cameras you
claim won't work with Macs? And if not, how about finally admitting you
made that up and explain why someone who claims to love Macs would say
something like that?

Well, clearly they're mistaken, as you have now been informed. Of
course, you didn't say _which_ Mac vendors you contacted.

Everyone knows that Radio Shack is full of Mac experts. If you want to
know *anything* about Macs, go to Radio Shack.

I think I've figured it out; he's really politically progressive and in
the secret employ of the Democratic National Committee. By making
himself look like a complete ass, he gets people pissed off at him.
Then, he adds that pro-Bush sig to his messages, so people who will
decided that if an ass such as him is for Bush, then they would be
better off voting against Bush.
Machiavelli would be proud.

Of course he believes anything anyone tells him. He votes for George W.
Bush!

Perhaps he counts RadioShack as a Mac vendor?

Or better still, Bluetooth so you don't need to do any plugging at all.
There are GPS units out there which can talk to both my PowerBook and
my mobile phone (Symbian), both via Bluetooth. One day I may buy one.

How odd -- I use a DeLorme TripMate with the last version of Street
Atlas on my 700 MHz iBook with considerable frequency.
If there is a GPS device out there with an old-style serial port, why
wouldn't a trusty old Keyspan USB-serial adapter work? That's how I
used to get the TripMate to work with an old Lombard Powerbook, before
I bought a USB adapter that also serves to power the GPS without
needing batteries.

Well, I've got a not-so-old, current pair of Garmin eTrex models (one's
a Summit). They work just fine with my PB via a Keyspan serial
adapter...as long as I stick to Street Atlas USA in VPC or the old
version that runs in Classic. But it's just not seen properly by Route
66. So to answer your question, I think there's a problem with the way
that Route 66 (at least) supports USB drivers.
So: Given that Garmin probably isn't going to change the way the code
their GPS firmware to make Mac users happy, I'm really frustrated that
Route 66 continues to support GPSes only via NMEA standard interface,
which doesn't work for Garmin-via-Keyspan on any of my Macs (10.2.8).
I'm totally convinced that the problem isn't Garmin-Keyspan; it's got to
be with the way Route 66 supports NMEA and the current crop of USB
drivers (I've tried two).
I'm glad to hear that USB-native GPSes work with Route 66, but before I
buy a new GPS, I'll buy a new copy of Street Atlas/PC and run it under
VPC. I haven't tried it lately, but the combination worked just fine
with my Pismo under OS 8/9.
I prefer to support Mac vendors, but Route 66 (whom I've used since
their first version in 1996 or so) is missing the boat for me.
