I've just come to the Mac after many years as a Windows user. I do miss
some of the games I played on the PC. UT2004 is one game I particularly
miss. Can anyone on this NG tell me their favourite Mac game. I need
something to do these long autumnal evenings.

Since you posted on ~.games.STRATEGIC...
My favorite game of all time - the one game that has held my attention
for longer than about a year and, indeed, longer than a decade - is
Nethack.

My faves have been around many years... Warcraft, Escape Velocity & Bolo.
Plenty of Mac games have been created but not in all genres. Plenty of
1st person shooters and god sims.... but limited racing and football
games.

I've been rather fond of RailRoad Tycoon 3. I know it's been out for a
while, but it works for me.
And Alpha Centauri, but I don't even think it's in print any more. >> Stay informed about: Games for the Mac |

Yeay!
MInd you, right now I am deeply engrossed in Second Life and probably
won't be playing of the above for quite a while...

You can get UT2004 for Mac...
My favorites at the moment are Close Combat: First to Fight (can't get past
that stupid MG in that corridor) and Command&Conquer: Zero Hour (especially
in multiplayer, alltime fave).
I wish I could get X2 to work, my problem is on my Powerbook keyboard there
are some keys missing I apparently need to play (pg up, pg down, home, end),
and I have not found so far a way to reassign the keys. Anybody?

My favorites are ``Europa Universalis II'', ``Hearts of Iron'',
and ``Victoria'' -- I think that if I can ever figure out the challenge
of keeping a positive cash-flow the last may be my favorite of all, based
on the level of endless fiddling that can be done over every bit of all
sorts of points. (The VickyWiki ``Victoria'' Wikipedia is essential to
understanding the game at all, though.)
Alas, I don't have nearly the time I want to play these.
I can play ``Railroad Tycoon III'' on the iMac in my office, but
since I'm shy about playing games on a work computer I haven't had the
chance to do more than get my feet wet. The waters are very friendly,
and I can begrudgingly admit they're making great use of the video card;
it's just frustrating to me that it requires more video card power than
I can get out of my iBook.

Yea, a lot do, but I'd really like editors for Heroes of Might and Magic
III and NeverWinter Nights.

I wish that would happen finally to NeverWinter Nights.
