I have to GPS appliances : Streetpilot 2610 and GPSMAPS 76C

The Software that Garmin uses is called MapSource and can only be used

with windows.

Uploading en downloading information from / to the GPS's is with USB

connection.

To communicate between my computer (Mac) and the GPS's I use virtual PC.

With my old computer, I have no problems, not with the 2610, not with

the 76C

This is a G3 - OS 9,2 - VPC 5,0 - windows 98.

With my new computer, I have not a problem with the 2610 but it does

not work with the 76C

This computer is a G4 - OS X,3 - VPC 6.1.1 - windows 2000

This is the problem :

When I go in VPC to the USB settings, I can make the 2610 available for

the software, when I do so (by checking it on) it stays chequed on (as

unknown hardware).

(When I leave the USB settings and I go back the them, I can see that

the 2610 is still checked on)

This is not the case for the 76C, When I go to the USB settings and

when I put the 76c on and of I can see it coming and going as unknown

USB hardware but, when I check it on it does not stay checked on. When

I leave the USB settings and when I go back to them, this GPS is not

anymore checked on.

This results in the fact that it is not available for the software.

The Garmin GPSMAPS 76c (which gives me the problems) is a newer type of

GPS than the 2610 (which don't give me problems).

I use both of the GPS'ses, The 2610 in my car, the 76c is a portable.

Please help me.

It is possible that MacGPS Pro will talk to this Garmin GPS device. See

It is OS X software

I am about to try it myself with a Garmin GPS72! Stay tuned for a report.

Hi Micheal,

the problem is the Virtual PC. I didn't have the problems with the G3 and
VPC 5. It's VPC 6.1 which it's doesn't work with. Any ideas?
Thank you.
Karen

Still no success but I will try these tips for getting USB-serial
adapters to work under OS X
