I am trying to get my Global Address List set up on Entourage 2004 (version
11.3.6). I got the information on the LDAP server from our systems people
but when I try to use it with Entourage I get the error "an unknown error
(-50) occurred". I used the same LDAP server info to set up the Mac Address
Book application - it worked fine. I have already tried reinstalling Office
2004 to no avail. Any suggestions?

Hi Richard!
Have you also selected "This server requires me to log in"? Rarely, will
you need to select any other options or enter a Search Base.
Hope this helps!

Bill,
Yep, tried that. Our server does require login and I did put in the
login information. In one attempt I tried adding the ldap information in
the Advanced tab under my exchange account. As that didn't work, I removed
the information from there and tried adding it as a separate Directory
Service account. In both cases I get the -50 error. As I mentioned, I was
able to take the ldap information and use it to set-up the Mac Address Book
app. All the information for that app is the same except it has a "scope"
field, which in my case is "Subtree".
Regards,
Richard

Hi Richard!
Does your Address Book have a search base then? Does it look something
like "CN=Users,DC=subdomain,DC=domain,DC=edu"?
Also, can you verify that you're trying to do all this while on your
campus network? LDAP servers of corporations and institutions are rarely
shared to the public and I think that the Address Book can download a
copy of the records in the Address Book.

I may have found what you need. I, too, have been trying to troubleshoot how
to get ldap from home.
Here's what is now working for me:
Don't set up the ldap within the exchange account. Instead, do this:
1-go to tools>Accounts
2-click on New and select new Directory Service
3-use the same settings within as you were given from your it person. I had
to include the search base to make it work and BAM! I was in.
Tell me if this works. I'd like to confirm my findings.

Kara,
this was the fix to my problem. I tried a dozen other things after searching the net.
I am using Leopard with Entourage 2008 and your suggestion was spot on!
Thanks,
