Is there a convenient app or utility for displaying the glyph table --
meaning the list of all the letters and symbols associated with the
current font (or another given font), and the keyboard combinations to
produce each of them, if they're keyboard-producible?
Something equivalent to the old "Keycaps" DAs in earlier Mac OS's?
Apologies if I'm missing something, but I don't seem to be finding such
on my system or in the related documentation -- and not finding the
keystroke combinations in the Character Palette.
(For OS 10.4/Tiger in particular). >> Stay informed about: Glyph table or keycaps utility of OS X? |

System Preferences / International / Input Menu
Turn on Character Palette and Keyboard viewer and Show Input menu in
menu bar. >> Stay informed about: Glyph table or keycaps utility of OS X? |

Look at the Input Menu tab of the International System Preferences. If
you display it in the menu bar, you can select a keyboard viewer from
there.

I find PopChar X does this very well. It's available here:
<http://www.ergonis.com/products/popcharx/>
It's a bit pricey at 30 Euros (~US$45), but a real time saver if you
need its functions a lot.

I've found that the OS-provided Character Palette fills the bill rather
well. Just choose "Glyph" from the View popup for that display and then
select the typeface whose glyph table you want displayed.

Yes, I think Character Palette and Keyboard Viewer are excellent
additions to OS 10, and they _are_ both free. That said, for the work I
do I prefer PopChar X's interface, enough so that I'm willing to pay for
it. I find I can work faster with it than Character Palette. Your
mileage obviously varies.
