HP psc 1350 scanning broke with Leopard

The scan function on the printer itself does not work. When I push the
button to scan the on/resume light flashes a few times then quits and
nothing else happens. It worked fine before I upgraded from Tiger.

So, I used the uninstaller to remove the software completely and
reinstall. While re-installing it gets to the point where there are 21
files left to install and hangs. I have to force quit the installer.
I'm using the 1300_790_EN.dmg installer posted on HP's website.

Maybe I should do an archive and install of OS 10.5 and start over if
the scanner works for others on Leopard.

Ah. I never actually used that. <tries it out> Hmm. You're right. It doesn't

Now _why_ would it be that scanning that way doesn't work, but scanning from
Photoshop does?

<tries something else> Hmm, what do you know... if you launch the PSC1350 app
from System Preferences/Print & Fax there's a 'scanner' button in the upper
right corner. Pressing that launches the HP scan app. And _that_ works. No
problems. It definitely ain't the scanning software itself, 'cause it scans.
It just doesn't scan when you hit the button on the scanner, or from Graphic
Converter. This, to me, indicates two things:

1 HP screwed up with the interface between the hardware and the scanning
software. Hitting the button is supposed to launch the scanning software. It
doesn't.

2 HP or Lemke, probably HP, did something that affects the linkage between GC
and the scanning software.

Time to go have a little chat with HP. Not that I expect them to _do_
anything. They haven't done anything the last half-dozen times I had a little
chat with them, why should this be different?

When the carts currently installed in this machine run low, instead of
spending $50 on new carts I'll apply that $50 towards a new MFD... and it
won't be from HP. Probably Brother, I have a Brother laser on which I do the
bulk of my printing and It Just Works. Bu-bye, HP...

The scanner works... the interface between the button on the hardware and
HP's scanner software doesn't.

OK that confirms that it is in my software and I don't need to wait for
an updater that isn't gonna happen. :)

I tried to chat with HP but that got me nowhere at all. So, I posted
here.
