HP2600 and G3 running 10.4

I recently upgraded my G3 iMac from 10.3.9 to 10.4.11, and began having
problems with printing to an HP2600n. It was fine under 10.3.

The printer is fine, I can print to it from a a couple of windows
systems and a G4 iMac running 10.4.11.

If I try to access it on ethernet or usb to the G3, the queue hangs for
a while and then the queue stops. But if I share it from the G4, the G3
can use it via the G4!!!!! It's usable that way, but frustrating - it's
meant to be a network printer.

I tried the knowledge bases on Apple and HP - no joy yet.

Any clues? - you get my undying gratitude for a solution :-)
