Help w/ DV video camera problem

Hi,

I have a home video audition tape I need to get onto a DVD...but my computer doesn't recognize the camera when I plug it in through a USB. My camera is just a Sony Mini DV Digital Handycam. Help! I don't know how to get the clips onto my computer...and I do have to cut/splice some clips.

I have tried using ImovieHD and Idvd...but neither have worked.

Another question, neither of the above softwares seem to allow me to play just a straight video, WITHOUT menus, or fancy themes. I need my DVD to just play the clips straight through, no intro.
