Post subject: Help! Firefox file:// url
Archived from groups: comp>infosystems>www>browsers>mac (more info?)

Hi

Can someone help me out? I've browsed the manuals and seached the web,
but I can't find my answer.

When I try to browse my local filesystem using the file:// url I can't
see my root directory.

In MSIE 'file:///' shows me the root, but when I type this in firefox I
get a dialog box saying 'The file / cannot be found. Please check the
location and try again.'

I can see subdirectories, for instance typing in 'file://Macintosh
HD/users' shows my my users directory, but clicking the 'up to a higher
level directory' link just goes to 'file:///'.

Also 'file://Macintosh HD/' gives me the same error as 'file:///', I
even tried 'file://Macintosh HD//', but all give the same result.

The permission on my root direcotry is set to 'read and write' for owner
and group, and 'read only' for others, but I'm browsing as the admin.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks!

John

There doesn't seem to be a way to do this, currently. See
