Help! Problem with the Sims

I know this is an old game but I am hoping someone can help. I am using an
iMac 233 with 360 mb ram, System 8.6.1.

I install:

The Sims
Livin Large Expansion Pack
House Party Expansion Pack

in that sequence... no problems

However, after installing the Hot Date Expansion pack, when I try to open the
first house I get the message "Tried to open too many files. This may be due
to extra skins you have installed".

I didn't install any extra skins... I have installed only what is standard on
the expansion packs and have not created any characters or houses.

I increased the memory to 250 mb, but that didn't help. I didn't expect it
would because it sounds like the system is trying to open too many files.

Has anyone seen this or can anyone give me a clue as to how to fix it?

I've had problems with Sims Hot Date. Wrote Aspyr (I think it was them),
absolutely no helpful response. I guess they figure once it's sold, you're on
your own.
