Help needed -- 'delete' not working properly

Hi
When I select a group of text and press the 'delete' key nothing
happens, it only dletes properly when i use the forward delete key. Is
there some setting I need to do in the MS Word prefferences? Thanks in
advance

Word | Preferences, Edit tab--there's a typing replaces selection checkbox.
I think "delete" or "backspace" is considered typing. Make sure that is
checked.
