Hi,

I really need help with this one!

I've got the old Mac game Driver. When I bought it the performance was
appalling on my old Rev B iMac so it's remained in a drawer...until
now!

I've now got a 1.25ghz G4 iMac and so I thought I'd get my £30.00
worth out of the game. However, when I try and load it Classic will
start up within Mac OS X.2 but when it's finished I get this nice
message;

'This application or control panel is not supported by Classic.'

....and then that's it, nothing. It doesn't start.

I know that if I actually started the computer up in Mac OS 9
(Classic) then the game would probably work. Unfortunately just about
all new Macs can't startup in anything less than Mac OS X so I need
another solution.

If anyone can help then I'll be eternally grateful! It's a bit late to
try and get a refund for the game now!

Cheers,

Shaun.

P.S. Before anyone tells me to upgrade/update, below are my system
specs;

iMac G4 1.25ghz
Mac OS X.2.8
1gb RAM
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra with 64MB of DDR SDRAM
Stupid stick-on monitor creature that my girlfriend got me for my
birthday - I had to put it on so as not to upset her feelings...looks
great on my stylish new computer!

It's not your hardware, but software that is causing the problem. Driver
came out during (or right before) the OS X migration, when releasing OS
X games was kind of a bonus rather than the norm. I have a bunch of OS 9
games, and most either do not run or run with unacceptable problems in
classic mode (most notably stuttering sound). I have Driver; tonight
I'll try and install it and run it in Classic mode, to see if I get
something similar.

Most likely it's the Driver application that needs an upgrade, and
there's pratically no chance of that occurring now.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
