Well, it *is* possible to buy a PC Radeon 7000 (or clone) and flash it
in a PC with the Mac ROM. I have done this with 2 cards - an ATI
Radeon 7000 32 meg DDR, and a PowerColor Radeon 7000 64 meg DDR. Both
work just fine. The ATI card cost me $45, and the PowerColor card cost
me $60. So, I have 2 Mac Radeon 7000 cards for $100 instead of $240!
HOWEVER, this is becoming more difficult to do. It seems that the
EEPROM chips on the PC cards are beginning to be only 64K - which is all
the space that the PC 7000 ROM needs. The Mac ROM needs 128k of space,
and hence will not fit. But there are already-flashed cards being sold
on eBay for $70. Still better than the $120 most places want for the
Mac version. Do a search on "Radeon 7000 PCI" on eBay to find them.
