I have collected the progenitor's 'dreadnaught', and in the following
scenario - the dreadnaught is disabled by its own weapon.

I have to repair, and get the drednaught to a repair station.

I can get the dreadnaught repaired,
I can get it to the repair station,
I can even get it repaired at the repair station,

- BUT by this point my forces have been overwhelmed by the enemy, and
I have like 3 or 4 ships left - the 'Mother ship', one or 2 destroyers,
and the dreadnaught. I have no resource points to build new ships
(fighters, etc), and then the enemies 'battle cruisers' show up ....

at that point the out come is bleak - I get my ass kicked and everything
blows up.

any hints, tricks or other ideas??

thanks

Awesome game, I enjoyed it very much. To get through this scenario I
used a ton of platform weapons. I deployed them in a rough sphere
around my mothership and kept the mothership and repair station close.
I also kept my fleet in close.

I don't know if I could have finished it any other way. The gun
platforms get destroyed fairly quickly, but you can also build them
quickly.

Good Luck.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I'm still trying to get to grips with the basic controls for this game.
I'm running an iMac G5, 1.6GHz, 768 MB memory, 1440 x 900 screen setting.

The cursor 'hunts' when I try to point it, even with a relatively simple
image. In other words, it doesn't go smoothly to where I want it to
point, but overshoots by up to a quarter-inch and has to be corrected
very carefully. It slows things down so that the game is unplayable.

I have tried dropping the screen size but that seems to make no
difference. Reviews which mention that the G5's image processor (GeForce
FX5200) is underpowered nevertheless mention no difficulty with this
game and say it's very playable.

Would anyone know what the difficulty might be? I run a wireless mouse
(the normal Apple one which comes with the G5): could that be the
problem? (NB Nothing to do with low battery power; I checked.)

I'd appreciate your suggestions.

I have since managed to get past this - and complete the single user
scenario.

My solution was - mine layers, and lots of corvettes (missile and ion),
along with bombers, later in the scenario. I concentrated on developing
and building destroyers too. I did use a few gun platforms. I also
used a *LOT* of concentrated fire.

That is I select damn near every ship and select a target (usually the
biggest incoming ship) and send them all at it until destroyed and then
on to the next.

The mine layers were GREAT for the big ships - it took awhile to figure
out how to use them, if you are not aware, the mines do NOT react to
ships below a certain size. so fighters, and corvettes can get though a
mine fields with no reaction. But larger ships activate them and they
move toward the larger ship(s) given enough mines they can take out a
destroyer.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I had no problem - although I am running a much faster system.

I would suggest - regardless of what you do with your machine a 2 button
mouse this makes - especially for this game - life much easier.

the 'skipping' you are getting may be related to the surface?? or
something interfering with the wireless connection?? do you get this
same effect in other programs?

try playing with the mouse sensitivity - I forget if HM2 has a mouse
setting of its own, but the system sure does. Also - EVEN if this
continues to be a problem, you can pause the game, make your selection,
unpause, repeat.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

No, not at all. It only happens with Homeworld.

 > try playing with the mouse sensitivity - I forget if HM2 has a mouse

Okay: tried that just now. Altering the Tracking Speed in the Keyboard
and Mouse/Mouse Control panel simply alters the amount of 'effort' my
hand has to put into moving the cursor across the screen. The result is
still a precise and smooth arrival at the point aimed at.
My problem with Homeworld 2 is different: whatever the tracking speed,
the cursor pointer 'overshoots' the point aimed at by just a half cm or
thereabouts; I correct it; it then 'undershoots' by around a quarter cm,
etc. until eventually it points to where I want it to point.

Also - EVEN if this

Well... yes, but most of the fun disappears.

Thank you for the suggestions: does anyone ouit there have any others I
might try?

Kind regards,

since I am not having this issue, and apparently anyone who reads this
NG does not -
try copying the saved states off to a separate directory, deleting the
game and re-installing it maybe something in the install got screwed<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

This sounds like a very discouraging problem I have had with CMBB and CMAK,
only I also have a very jerky picture when I try to pan the view. I only
have this problem with those two games, but then I haven't played a lot of
games in the last three years.

I attribute the problem to some glitch batween the game and my video card,
although that puzzles me, since it is an nVidia GeForce4 Ti4600 with 128MB
of VRAM, which otherwise can take everything I throw at it.

Puzzling, disturbing, and irritating.

I played this game on a Powerbook G4 1.5GHz, so your system should be
plenty fast enough.

I can only hazzard a guess, but your wireless mouse might have something
to do with it. Have you tried using a wired mouse?

Good luck!

Just tried it this evening. Same problem, using a Microsoft S+ARCK
optical mouse.
