My iBook is getting way too hot. It is common for a laptop to get hot, but
not this hot -- what are my support options? It is basically unusable --
also, if there is a fan, it's never coming on.

The iBook does have a fan, and it is fairly loud. The fan on my iBook
has not come on since upgrading to 10.2.2 and the machine is never
noticeably hot, so I would guess something is amiss.

Have you tried resetting the PMU (Power Management Unit)?

How do you do that?

Yeah, I have not heard the fan in at least two months.

What support optiosn are there? I look at apple.com and all I see is a
phone number for 49 cents per minute and lots of Applecare e-commerce.

Here is a reference from the Apple Knowledge Base:

<a rel="nofollow" style='text-decoration: none;' href="http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449" target="_blank">http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449</a>

I haven't tried it; I have not needed to.

If you click on the Support Tab at apple.com, you get to
<a rel="nofollow" style='text-decoration: none;' href="http://docs.info.apple.com" target="_blank">http://docs.info.apple.com</a> where this is a way to search the knowledge
base.

Seems like this is a last resort, right?

Not at all. It won't hurt a thing.

Sure. Take it to any Apple retail store and talk to the Mac Genius in
residence.
