Imovie import problem

I've just been given a Sony mini dv digital handycam (TRV22). I've
taken some video and a few stills with it. When I try to import the
stills, I have no problem at all. Iphoto recognizes the camera, and
the photos are quickly imported.

But when I try to import the video, imovie says that there's no camera
connected. I'm using imovie 3.0.3. Any suggestions?

Did you use the Firewire cable to connect it, not USB?
