Hi there,

I copied all my Mail 3.1 MBOX files to DVD from my iMac (Leopard 10.5.1)
computer. I then copied these files to a folder under Documents on my new
MacBook Pro. I can find no way to import these files into Entourage (also
10.5.1). Messages cannot be found.

How can I import these files into E2008? Any help much appreciated.

Thank you!

Lynn

You can drag an mbox file directly onto the Entourage folder list.

Hi there,

Tried dragging the MBOX folder into My Computer. Doesn't show up at all.
Then I went into the Microsoft User Data and Main Identity and dragged a
folder into there. It shows up in Finder but not in Entourage.

I think I'm missing something here so I'm hoping for some more guidance.
Thank you!

Lynn

Try dragging it to your folder list so that your Inbox highlights. This will
make it a subfolder of your Inbox. It can then be dragged upwards to make it
a top-level folder.

Sorry, still no luck. The Inbox will not highlight at all. No green + sign
either when held over the Inbox. Also tried just the messages, no luck.
Then tried highlighting all the messages under the Messages folder and the
relevant plist and still doesn't come across. Any other ideas please?

Is this your local Inbox "On My Computer"? It should work. Does the mbox
file have a .mbox extension?

> Also tried just the messages, no luck.

Messages will work if they have .eml extensions and are dragged into the
message list area.

Now I'm confused, what does this mean?

Answers are Yes to .mbox extension. However, I see that under each original
folder name there is a info.plist and a Messages subfolder. The Messages
subfolders all have the extension of emlx. Could this be the problem, i.e.,
the extension name? Yes, it is the My Computer Inbox that I'm trying to
drag these over to.

Thanks again!

L.

This could be a Leopard permissions problem. Try importing into a new
Identity in a new User and see what happens.

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the
New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching. Test Office there.

While you are in the new User, create an MBOX file and check permissions on
it to compare to your problem MBOX.

Also under File --> Import you can select to import MBOX files. Select the
option 3 Contacts or messages from a text file. Next, select "Import
messages from an MBOX-format text file"

Problem now solved. I went back to the iMac where the E2008 resides and
re-exported each folder that I needed. Copied all folders to DVD and then
brought them over one at a time to MBP E2008 to My Computer Inbox. Worked
perfectly. The files I had been trying to import were a few months old so
it's possible there was a problem. All now working perfectly.

I am trying to import MBOX files, but they are greyed out when I try
to select them from the import function in Entourage. I can see them
all listed there on the server, but they are greyed and so I cannot
select them.

Please help!

Move them to your desktop. Entourage does not like to import from other
drives/servers.

I would try dragging them directly onto the Entourage dock icon when you
have Entourage running. If the Entourage icon does not highlight, try
holding down the Command and Option keys when you drag and drop it onto the
Entourage Dock icon.

I had the same issue, but none of these solutions worked for me.

What I ended up doing was copying the MBOX from my ~/Library/Mail folder to my desktop. Then I went into the Messages folder within the MBOX, selected all the messages (.emlx), right clicked, selected the "More --> Automator --> Create Workflow" option, then used Automator's "Rename Finder Items" to replace "emlx" with "eml".

Once the workflow was done, I selected all the renamed files and dragged and dropped them into my folder list in Entourage, and voila! It worked.

Hope this helps anyone who has the same issue.

Thanks a lot, Kyle. Your solution worked for me as not of the others did. I had even changed the permissions on my .mbox and its contents to be read/write/execute for all users and still none of the other solutions worked.
