Post subject: Inbox for Exchange account no longer updates in Entourage 2008 Archived from groups: microsoft>public>mac>office>entourage (more info?)

I upgraded to Entourage 2008 a week ago, and everything was initially
working well with my corporate Exchange account. However, since
yesterday the Inbox has not updated while messages to other folders
are received successfully. Outlook on Windows and OWA both show
messages being received to the Inbox and any other folders.
I have tried restarting the system in hopes that some process had
simply died. I would prefer not to create a new Identity as that is a
bit of a nuclear option, and I don't want to do that each week if this
is going to happen frequently. Is there a way to diagnose and fix the
issue?

I have exactly the same problem since yesterday Feb. 8. Everything
worked fine until... lunch (GMT).
this is what works:
- sending mails through entourage
- receiving junk mail
- running outlook under parallels
- drafting emails in outlook
- having the drafts in entourage
Receiving mails in my entourage inbox does not work!
Any help is appreciated,

automatically -- the status area in the bottom right corner says 'Now
updating Inbox' and the progress bar throbber animates for a few
minutes. At the end of that time, the animation and status text go

I have a fairly large account with around 1 GiB of data, due to many
messages with attachments, so recreating the account actually is
painful -- it took about 10 hours the first time, far slower than
synchronizing Outlook from the same location.

What happens if you right-click on the folder and select 'synchronise now'?

No reason why it should be a recurring problem - it's not a commonly
reported problem by any means.
Deleting and recreating the account isn't all that painful - pretty much
everything in terms of mail, events and contacts is recovered (except
categories).

Are any error messages generated? Check the Error Log window.

Hi Ryan!
That's an excessive time, but I don't need to tell you that, do I? ;-)
What is your Exchange Server address? Are you trying to use an external
Outlook Web Access (OWA) address while inside your company network? If
so, then point Entourage directly to your Exchange Server (an internal
server).

Hi,
I have the same problem. I VPN into the office, talk directly to
Exchange and it has updated my Sent items, Contacts, Calendar, Public
Folders completely and continues to do so. My Inbox however stops at
around 2000 messages (from a total of around 13,000) and thinks it is
synchronised. Office 2007 in the same scenario (i.e. same exchange
server) on my various Windows PC's is fine, as is Outlook Web Access.
I've tried deleting Office 2008 completely (including the data files)
and re-installing and it still has the same problem.
I'm reasonably tech-savvy and I'd guess there is a problem with the
product but does anyone have any ideas? At the moment I'm tempted to
send Office 2008 back and go back to Windows-world...

Just further to this, my local Outlook data files (on Windows) are
pretty large, probably 2Gb each for Inbox and Sent Items because I've
kept everything I've received/sent for the last two years. Under
Entourage my Sent Items seems to synchronise fully (about 11,000
items, approx 1.8Gb) and continues to receive new items. >> Stay informed about: Inbox for Exchange account no longer updates in Entourage .. |

I replied to this Sunday, but it doesn't appear to have made it
through. Hopefully this isn't a duplicate.
The Exchange Server is internal to our corporate network, so it's
local to me when I'm in the office and I use a VPN to connect from
home. In both cases, I have the same issue, but Outlook on Windows

Hi Ryan!
Can you verify my question? Are you using a back-end server address or a
front-end OWA address? You generally don't want to use an OWA address
internally. In other words, while inside your company network (or VPN)
you don't want to use an address that you'd normally use while outside
your network.
Also, the Inbox is special and is synchronized more frequently that
other folders. Create folders outside of your Inbox and file messages
there. Reduce the size of your Inbox. Keep it as lean as possible.

Back-end server address in the 10.x.x.x private space. Outlook and
Entourage never use the front-end OWA address.

No thanks. I'd rather the software work for me rather than me work
for it. After all, Outlook on Windows doesn't have issues.
