I've got an external LaCie CDRW drive which I want to hook up to an
old iMac, but it doesn't run under OSX. I tried installing the
software that came with it under Classic, but the version of
Silverlining that came with the drive won't install under Classic. As
a last resort, I could reinstall OS9 and boot into that when I needed
to burn a CD, but is there any way of getting it to work under OSX?

What do you mean "doesn't run under OSX"? Is the drive not recognized
at all? Which version of OSX?

I have a LaCie Firewire CD-RW that works fine under OS X. If I'm
reading this tag right it's a model 104861 (24x10x40x).

I think your problem may be your trying to install the software that
came with it. Try plugging it in and use/burn from the Finder and erase
from Disk Utilites.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
