I've bought a used IMAC Laptob. Whenever I try to install something
like OS Update or something like that... it asks me for a password.
Since I'm not a Mac user I don't know other details.
The machine i got is a G3 900 Mhz with 384 MB RAM.
I know nothing about MAC. So I'll appreciate if you can explain me the
procedure step by step.

If you can't get hold of the original owner to find out the password,
then you'll need the original system installer disk that came with the
machine in order to reset the password. Here's an article that will
help (in fact, this whole web site will help):

<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106156" target="_blank">http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106156</a>

(The sub-heading "Resetting the original administrator account
password" is the one you want.)

If you didn't receive any CDs with the computer, then you're going to
have to re-purchase the operating system for $129. If that's the case,
I strongly recommend tracking the seller down and telling him he sold
you an unusable machine, and you either need that password or the MacOS
install CDs.

Hope that helps.

Assuming that System Preferences is "unlocked", the OP should be able to
create another admin account with a known password. At that point, the old
account can be deleted, or he can to change the password by logging on as the
new admin. The old user's keychain password will not be changed, but that's
not a big deal-just trash the old keychain and start a new one.

The original owner didn't do things right. To make up for it,
get hold of the disks which came with the laptop, or of a newer
System Installation disk, and install the operating system
yourself. Then you'll know all the passwords you need to know.

It's not a difficult thing to do: you should have got a little
booklet telling you how, or you could just put the disk in the
drive, run the installation program, and follow the instructions.
