Hi Alan -

First check the settings in Word> Preferences> Spelling & Grammar. You
should find the answers to your questions here if the settings are correct
but the problem continues:

http://word.mvps.org/mac/SpellCheck.html

If you still have problems post back with details including Office & OS X
update levels, where the content came from (typed or copy/paste), what
you've tried & what the specific results were.

Thanks for the link, I tried every step to no avail finally I uninstalled
and reinstalled and that fixed my problem. Still it proved to be a big
learning curve and for that I thank you.

Have a good year
Alan
