First, let me say thanks to anyone that can help me.

Here's what going on.

Mac has bootcamp with Vista installed on it. Both server and client
have latest updates. When trying to join domain you get " the RPC
server is unavailable" most of the time, if I see this it's due to
dns not set right at the client end.

I can and have join new pcs, notebooks to this domain to confirm the
problem stays on the MAC.

I added static IP to everything and added host A rec. in DNS an can
ping every device. the Machine name is added to the server in AD once
you try join the domain. Then you get the same errors one or more, all
dealing with RPC server.

Thanks, Again

Bruce

Hi Bruce!

The fact that this is a Mac is a moot point. You're still talking about
vanilla Windows.

RPC errors like this are indicative of DNS problems. They can either be
caused by improperly configured DNS servers or you may need to do
something like add the correct DNS search suffix to your Vista
computer's settings.

Can you confirm that those machines you've already joined to AD are also
Vista machines?

While I don't believe this is the answer to your problem, the thread at
this link does include some helpful troubleshooting information.

You might also try posting your question in a Vista or AD specific
newsgroup such as
<http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windows.vista.general>
or
<http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windows.server.active_directory>.

Hope this helps!

Yes, I agree.

Thanks, for your input.

Hi Bruce!

That's encouraging. I'd hate to think something with hardware comes into
play here. That would be very strange.

I think your best best is to determine if you can join Vista to your
domain from any machine, not just the Mac. If you have a second hard
drive that you can put into one of your non-Mac Intel boxes and image
that with Vista then I'd expect you'd see the same message. Or you could
probably install one of your XP licenses on your Mac just for testing
purposes.

Either way, you need to eliminate one of the two variables--the Mac or
Vista.

Hope this helps!
