Same here. Only more often I am too impatient to wait 30 seconds, so I
simply count to ten and pop it open again. That usually does the trick.

I wish it were that simple, but this generally happens when it's been
plugged in the whole time, typically after I put it to sleep
overnight. Ah well, next time it happens I'll try the 30-second
thing.

I've seen 2 conditions where my MBP (15.4"/1.83 CD) has refused to
wake up. The first, and easier case, is if I do what Doug mentioned
above. I've found that, if I close the lid, and wait until the "sleep
light" starts to cycle, I can open the lid and all is well. The second
has been harder to overcome. If, with the lid closed, I plug in a USB
device, I have been unable to get the computer to wake up again.
Perhaps because it is getting mixed signals (plugging in the USB
device tells it to wake up, while having the lid closed says go to
sleep). Anyway, the couple of times this has happened, I found I had
to restart the MBP.

Nevermind that it shouldn't happen at all.
It seems to be related to changing power adapter state while it is
suspended. If you have it plugged into the brick when you close the
lid, and remove it before opening it again, or vice versa, it seems
much more likely to do this.

I haven't had this. I have had the following: I close the lid, and
then realize almost immediately I wasn't done, and open the lid again.
Then the machine is in some strange state (maybe just still asleep).
If I wait a few seconds and hit a key, or maybe click on the mouse (I
foret which), it wakes up. >> Stay informed about: MacBook Pro doesn't like waking up |

Suffice it to say that the macbook pro power management firmware is
borked. There are a number of different ways to trip into wakeup
issues, the one I posted above was the one I've found is easiest to
reproduce on my system.
I bought mine very early, and I'm more than a bit miffed that all this
time later it still hasn't been addressed.
