Archived from groups: comp>sys>mac>comm, others (more info?)

Hi there.

After Forte recent upgraded their APN
<http://www.forteinc.com/apn/index.php> server I have had MacSOUP choke
on various newsgroups at the point where it is fetching headers. The
progress window just flickers and no headers are ever downloaded. Right
now it is sticking on the alt.games.diablo group almost ever time.

I have tried forcing a rebuild of the groups and deleting the affected
groups and re-subscribing to no avail. APN's support has no idea what is
going on.

Is there anything else I can try without deleting everything? I am on a
new mid-2007 2.8GHz iMac, 2GB RAM, running Leopard version 10.5.2. But
it happened under 10.5.1 as well. This all began the other week after
Forte upgraded their servers to increase retention.

TIA,
Jamie Kahn Genet

Have you considered simply moving to another service provider such as
Supernews?

Sure, but the problem is intermittent, though common; and curiosity as
well as laziness dictates that I spend at least a little while trying to
get it sorted so I can know what went on, and avoid the bother of
moving. Plus if it's a bug in MacSOUP I might help improve my favourite
shareware app :-)

Ok cool. Being a MT-NW / Supernews user, I obviously can't help you with
MacSOUP. Hopefully you'll find some other MacSOUP / Forte users here!
