Apple just updated its laptop line: I think it is Penryn across the
board. Speed bumps, bigger drives, etc.

No news on iMac yet. :(

I just noticed that Apple no longer gives you the remote for free.

Maybe they found a lot of customers like me. I've got at least 3,
perhaps 4 of the things floatting around the house. I've never actually
used one of them for anything other that seeing that they worked.

I am getting confused because this thread starting discussing the new
Macboooks and Macbook Pros. Is this remote you people are discussing

I've actually used mine a couple times. They work well when giving
presentations in Keynote. Also, I saw them on sale at the Apple Store
today. They cost about $20.00

Feel free to send me one. I have a MacBook without one.

I tried to find a replacement on the Apple website but couldn't.

Maybe Apple can't either and that's why they no longer include them!

I just went to the Apple Store site, searched for "remote control" and
found this right away:

Thanks, Mike. All I got last night searching 'remote control' was related to
controlling a computer remotely.

It's entirely possible that they didn't start selling it separately
until just now, with the introduction of laptops sans remotes.

The Apple Remote is extremely useful when giving presentations with
PowerPoint... IF you install the nifty program Remote Buddy (see
Versiontracker). Remote Buddy allows you to assign specific keys to
each gesture on the remote for any application.
